This limited release Yolo County organically certified extra virgin olive oil comes to us from the Milner Ranch in Winters, California. An EXQUISITE olive oil, and holding strong, if we do say so ourselves!
Comprised of Maurino, Leccino and Coratina olives, this exceptional oil is grassy but still creamy, full-bodied, sweet, and luscious, with no bitterness, and a mild pungency (tingle in the throat) that lets you know it's fresh and full of polyphenols. Excellent as a dipping and finishing oil. Use it to make our luscious Cauliflower Soup or drizzle it over Chocolate Ice Cream with Maldon Sea Salt.
Update: This ranch suffered fire damage and was sold last year, and sadly, this is the last of this particular oil we will get. Click here to read more about the stellar qualities of this oil, and here for photos of the fire damage. Get it while it lasts!

About the Milner's Ranch & Olives:
In 2008 the Milner family (James, Rita and Sydney) started their grove with an initial planting of 450 Leccino and Maurino olive trees, on 10 acres. In 2010, to round out the blend, they added about 50 Coratina trees.
At each step of the way, from organic farming practices to pruning, picking, and milling, the olives that comprise our Stonehouse Organic Estate Blend receive the best possible care. The olives are pruned and harvested by hand, to insure no damage or bruising to the olives or tress. Larger estates mechanically prune and harvest, which has a greater instance of damaging the trees and bruising the fruit.
Olives are drupes - stone fruit, like peaches and nectarines - and begin to rot quickly when damaged or are exposed to heat. Optimum olive oil is achieved from olives picked by hand, without bruising, and milled within 24 hours. The Milners hand-pick their olives in the morning and mill them in the afternoon, within 12 hours.
It is no wonder that this oil is some of the best California extra virgin olive oil we have ever offered! With a fresh, just-cut-grass bouquet, a rich, sweet flavor (with a gorgeous, subtle cherry note), luscious mouthfeel, and a bit of piquancy, which lets you know it's full of polyphenols. Read more about high polyphenol olive oils here.
The farming methods on the Milner Ranch are strictly organic, and certified each year by Yolo Certified Organic Agriculture, and the oil consistently receives an Extra Virgin certification annually from the California Olive Oil Council (COOC). This oil has won gold and silver medals from the Napa Valley Olive Oil Competition, the California Olive Oil Council, and the California State Fair.
This is a special oil for finishing greens, vegetables, soups, main courses, and for dipping with fresh bread, not to be cooked with!
