Our 2023 Olio Nuovo Leccino is here! Olio Nuovo means "new oil" in Italian, the first pressing of the harvest, a celebration of a year's work, bottled immediately, and available for just a few months. It is best used fresh, and generously, for dressing greens and as a finishing oil.
Leccino is an olive varietal from Northern Italy, a classic Ligurian olive, like the Taggiasca. Both varietals are typically harvested when ripe, and yield a mild, sweet, delicate, rich olive oil. We planted this varietal, along with the Cortina and Taggiasca, in 2018, and this is just our 2nd harvest.
Our 2023 harvest yielded a classic Leccino, with all the attributes above, plus a ripe, black olive scent, an electric green color (which will naturally fade), no bitterness, but with a definitely piquancy in the throat that let's you know it's fresh and full of polyphenols. All in all a classically mild, ripe-harvest evoo, for those dishes and folks that prefer a milder oil.
Harvested and Milled November 14, 2023. Bottled November 20, 2023.
Olio Nuovo typically has a hazy or cloudy appearance. This year our Leccino was racked after 2 days in a stainless steel settling tank before being transferred to smaller 330 gallon containers for storage and shipping to the bottling line. It is normal to see particulates settle out over time. If you do not use your Olio Nuovo in 1 month then please transfer to a clean bottle. We hope you enjoy this oil and would love to hear from you.
This product is not available for Subscriptions due to it's seasonal nature.
I generally don’t like the taste of extra virgin olive oil since it usually has a bitter off putting taste. Probably because it’s the store bought variety and who knows how long it’s been sitting on the shelf, but this stuff is the real deal. I use it on everything
