Our 2024 Select Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a single varietal oil this year, Taggiasca!
Taggiasca is one of the varietals we offered as 2023 Olio Nuovo. We harvested it in early October, so we were able to capture a mix of green and ripe fruit notes—a subtle, grassy bouquet, a creamy sweet flavor with just a hint of vanilla—combined with a mild, peppery piquancy that is more of a tongue tingler than a throat burner, and just a touch of perfect bitterness. A very well balanced, hits-all-the-notes oil that is one of the year's best!
Taggiasca is typically a subtle varietal that hails from Liguria, in northern Italy, and is usually harvested when fully ripe, yielding a milder, sweeter oil. Since this a newer varietal for us—only our 3rd harvest—we decided to pick it a bit earlier, to see what that would produce, and we are quite happy with the result. Let us know what you think! As always, our olive oils are first- and cold-pressed, and grown herbicide and pesticide free.
We recommend using this oil in cold applications only, to showcase its attributes: on greens, finishing vegetables, couscous, soups, hummus, or just for dipping with fresh bread! Try it drizzled on a toasted english muffin in the morning instead of butter, the warmth from the muffin makes the flavors pop.
